Director of Philanthropy (Major Gifts)

We have an excellent opportunity for a Director of Philanthropy serving the Greater Bay Area and Silicon Valley territory, as well as Northern California, Northern Nevada and Utah. The Director will be based in the Greater Bay area.
This is a unique opportunity for a Major Gifts professional to join a nationally recognized organization and an entrepreneurial team that is building a successful major gifts program with the potential to impact the mission far beyond the territory served. The Director of Philanthropy, in collaboration with key volunteers and staff, will build strong relationships with top individual donors and secure major gifts necessary to support the association's mission to build healthier lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
Responsibilities include: Managing a portfolio of top potential donors; developing appropriate strategies to achieve fundraising goals including prospect identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship; developing strong relationships with donors, volunteer leadership, Executive Directors and other staff in territory served.
Qualified applicants will need to have:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- 4+ years of non-profit development experience, including major gift strategy and solicitation
- Successful track record of managing a portfolio of $100,000+ donors and the ability to close six-figure individual gifts
- Demonstrated ability to accomplish results through collaboration and strong relationships with volunteers and staff
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Highly effective organization, multi-tasking, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to thrive in a results-driven environment
- Ability to travel, including occasional overnight
