In the role of the Senior Environmental Project Manager, we'll count on you to focus on environmental planning, documentation, permitting, and compliance strategy development and execution for multiple projects and programs across HDR's portfolio of projects and clients in these industries. To be successful, candidates must have a very strong background in environmental and related infrastructure development services pertaining to the transportation industry. The position encompasses four primary roles:

  • Environmental Project Manager focusing on technically complex transportation environmental projects
  • Environmental Technical Advisor
  • Leading Section 4(f); FHWA, FTA, and/or FRA NEPA documentation
  • Quality Control Reviewer

The successful candidate will engage in project delivery, client development/client management, and HDR brand awareness activities in the environmental/infrastructure market. Responsibilities include:

  • Identifying environmental project/program opportunities in collaboration with client management teams
  • Leading or participating in client management teams
  • Environmental documentation, permitting, and compliance strategy development
  • Preparing and monitoring scopes and budgets for environmental projects/programs
  • Overseeing and participating in the preparation of transportation NEPA/SEPA documentation, leading complex transportation environmental permitting efforts, and leading or supporting other environmental projects
  • Participating in risk management activities for contract reviews and project deliverables
  • Working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams which may include engineers, planners, environmental scientists, attorneys, and real estate experts
  • Consulting and coordinating with government agency representatives
  • On average, 10% travel expected
  • Performing other duties as needed

The successful candidate will be expected to perform non-routine tasks on multiple projects simultaneously; contribute to concise technical documents, assist with diverse projects, and innovate and follow through to completion of all assigned and delegated tasks. This position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team as well as complete tasks within tight deadlines. Applicants must be detail-oriented, organized, effective communicators, and team players with a strong focus on quality and client service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A license/certification
  • PMP certification
  • BS or BA degree in Biology, Geography, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Planning or related degree; advance degree desirable
  • 10 years working with state and federal environmental regulatory agencies and programs; writing proposals; developing scopes of work, budgets, and schedules for complex environmental projects with multi-disciplinary teams and multi-agency efforts
  • Strong strategic, conceptual, organizational, analytical, problem solving, and research abilities
  • Ability to support multiple complex and time sensitive projects effectively
  • Fostering collaborative team attitudes
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Able to work under and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to interact with design and construction teams in a positive and proactive manner

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • 10 years related experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of project management experience
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office, estimating and scheduling software (Primavera P3 or SureTrak preferred), project management software (Prolog preferred)
  • Must have the ability to interact with various design teams, have excellent organizational, project management and communication (both written and verbal) skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
